The Players is a private social club welcoming those with an appreciation for theatre and entertainment and the related history that lives within the walls of our beloved clubhouse. The Players was founded in 1888 when Edwin Booth, the greatest American actor of his time, purchased a Gothic Revival-style mansion facing Gramercy Park. Booth asked architect Stanford White to transform it into "a certain club" where performers, writers, visual artists, and patrons of the arts could happily mix. More than 130 years later, the tradition continues. Membership benefits range from access to our historic clubhouse to a variety of member-only events including dramatic readings and artist interviews, evenings of cabaret and jazz, film screenings and card games at the table where Mark Twain once played. Members enjoy lunch, cocktails, and dinner in the Grill, exclusive access to meeting spaces and catering for private parties, and keyed access to Gramercy Park itself. The privileges of membership in The Players are endless.
The Players is a private social club that draws its membership from the theatre community and the related fields of film, television, music, and publishing, as well as arts lovers from a broad range of professions. What makes The Players unlike any other club is our spirit of fun and camaraderie. Performer or patron, newcomer or veteran, we all have a great time together.
